Day One: Welcome!

Welcome to the Fifteen Minute Creative!

This blog is inspired by Amitva Kumar's article on productivity, in which Professor Kumar wrote an entire book--yes, an entire book!--over the course of a single year.

All in only fifteen minutes a day

This blog is a record of my adventure in trying to do the same. One year of fifteen daily minutes of committed creative practice.

It's also an archive of inspiration and ideas that will help me, or anyone trying to achieve a similar goal, along the way.

Day One

Today is day one. Scary and exciting!

I feel like, before I really get started, I have to answer a few questions about the fifteen minutes:

1. Where will I find the time? Others may disagree, but I want to have a plan so that I know when my fifteen minutes are supposed to start and can organize accordingly. I'm willing to deviate from my plan when I have to, but I think it always helps to have a plan!

My fifteen minutes will be either a) in the morning before everyone else in my house wakes up, or else b) during my daughter's nap time. (When I would normally be exercising, making dinner, and attending the zillion other things that need to be done.)

2. What counts as fifteen minutes of creativity?

For me, because I'm trying to write professionally, the fifteen minutes must be spent writing. On a project that has publication potential. Blog entries, journal entries, emails, etc. don't count.

3. How will I log my progress?

I will place a check mark on a pad of paper for each day that I complete my fifteen minutes. This pad will ONLY be used for this specific purpose.

4. Will I do fifteen minutes of creativity on weekends?

Yes! A thousand times (or fifteen times?) yes!

That's it!

Let the creativity begin!
